Le Corbusier. Biography. Outlines of his life

1928

Le Corbusier appeared again on the stage as a co-Founder of the International Congresses of Modern Architecture (CIAM), an avant-garde institution supporting related functional and structural principles. Within the following years the CIAM developed modern regularies for city planning.

1929

Le Corbusier´s design of the L´Esprit Nouveau pavilion at the 1929 Salon d´Automne, which Thonet subsequently produced, was a remarkable step in his career.

1930

Marriage with Yvonne Gallis

1929-1933

Active global role in architecture and city planning. Famous works like the Salvation Army Hostel in Paris and the Swiss Dormitory at the Cité Universitaire in Paris.

1933-35

Housing project Ville Radieuse with affordable homes in slab blocks in a park environment, later realized in Roehampton (1958).

1935

Time for a trip to the United States

1936

Famous plan for the ministry of education in Brazil with a special focus on sunshade effects.

1939-1945

Reduced activities. Most important his work on a new theory about a modular building scale , that finally should be finished in 1950. Break with Pierre Jeanneret, whom he had been aquainted with for about twenty years. The Swiss architect was said to be a strong adherent of the Vichy government.

1943

Foundation of the "Assemblée des Constructeurs pour une Rénovation Architecturale"

1945

Several plans for the reconstruction of some urban regions in France (Saint Die: skyscrapers) , La Pallice-Rochelle) weren´t realized.

1945

Le Corbusier was appointed as a member of the jury for the new United Nations building in New York
